BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A Brookville man is behind bars for allegedly threatening a couple with an axe following an incident on Sunday evening.
Court documents indicate the Brookville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 40-year-old Jesse James McNutt, of Brookville, in District Judge Gregory Bazylak’s office on Monday, April 22.
According to a criminal complaint, Brookville Borough Police were requested to respond to Sylvania Street in Brookville Borough, Jefferson County, for an “accident” and a male threatening another male with an axe around 7:43 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
The dispatcher advised that the male suspect was in a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck and had just left the scene. While conducting the investigation, a known female victim told police she put her vehicle in reverse due to a man waving an axe at her and her boyfriend. She explained that they had been getting harassed by this individual, identified as Jesse McNutt, the complaint states.
The victims explained that they noticed McNutt at the baseball fields while they were there watching a game. They asked McNutt and a known female to leave since they “do not get along” and they said they are not leaving. When the victims were leaving, they told police that McNutt pulled out in front of them and then pulled over to the side of the road. When they drove past McNutt, he waved a red axe at them.
This is when the victim panicked and put her car in reverse, causing an accident with a black Ford pickup truck behind her, the complaint notes.
The victim stated that this is not the first time McNutt has harassed them, according to the complaint.
Police contacted McNutt at his residence and he admitted that he did wave the axe at the victims earlier in the evening, the complaint states.
According to the complaint, McNutt was transported to the police station for further questioning where he signed a waiver of Miranda rights and agreed to talk about the incident. McNutt was very hyper and his speech while talking with police.
McNutt reported he remained in his vehicle at the ball game, and when it was over, he saw the victims leaving the game and pulled out behind them. He then stated he saw the victim pointing and yelling with the window up and said that he raised an axe, displayed it to the victims, and tapped it on the window a few times. He then saw the victim back up her vehicle, striking the truck behind her and then he left the scene, the complaint indicates.
McNutt was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 22, on the following charges in front of Judge Bazylak:
– Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
– Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
– Harassment – Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, with Judge Bazylak presiding.
