Joyce Marian Startzell, daughter of the New Covenant of Grace in Jesus Christ, was born October 31, 1939, to Rev. William West (Deceased) and Marian West (Deceased) in Berlin, PA.
Joyce passed peacefully into Glory on April 23, 2024, at her home in Brookville, PA.
Joyce was the loving wife of Rev. Loye Startzell, retired United Methodist Minister (Brookville, PA).
They were married for 64 years.
She was the devoted mother of Linda Ellis (deceased) (Lee) of Beloit, OH; Donald Startzell (Megan) of Highland, MD; and Sharon Walton (Ronald) of French Creek, WV.
She had four siblings: Rev. William West (deceased) (Dixie), Carol Gardner (Rev. Richard), Rev. Marilyn Sainsbury (deceased) (Rev. James), and Cynthia O’Donnell (Richard).
Joyce had 5 grandchildren whom she adored: Nicholas Mucklo, Jenna Putirka (Kody), Zachery Mucklo, Cody Walton (Rebekah), and Dusty Walton (Morgan); and 3 great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face: Lindy, Wrenly, Clement, plus one on the way.
She also had two special sisters-in-Law: Sandra Holben (Richard) and Patricia Startzell (Darl -deceased), plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joyce attended the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church where she and Loye met and later married in 1959.
Joyce loved music, played the piano, and sang in various church choirs across Western Pennsylvania where her husband, Loye, served as a United Methodist pastor for many years.
She enjoyed puzzles, sewing, cooking, and hosting church gatherings.
She loved her family, and she loved the outdoors, but most importantly, she loved Jesus her Lord and Savior, and all of these loved her dearly.
Joyce lived a long happy life.
Her decline in health was caused by several diseases – Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Sjögren’s Syndrome, Dementia, and debilitating arthritis especially with bone spurs in her neck.
The family greatly appreciates all the physicians, caregivers, and hospice workers who helped to relieve her suffering.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service held at the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on April 27, 2024 officiated by Rev. Loren McQueen.
In honoring the wishes of the deceased, there will be no viewing and her body will be cremated.
The interment of ashes will be at the Brookville Cemetery.
