Police: Area Man Accused of Stealing Items from Goodwill, Convicted of Retail Theft More Than 8 Times

DUBOIS, Pa. (EYT) – An area man, who reportedly has over eight prior retail theft convictions, is now accused of stealing items from Goodwill in DuBois.

According to court documents, the following charge against 66-year-old Mark Kearse, of DuBois, was waived for court during a preliminary hearing on Friday, May 12, in front of District Judge David S. Meholick:

– Retail Theft, Felony 3

He is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Prison on $10,000.00 monetary bail.

A formal arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m., in the Annex Courtroom.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint filed in Judge Meholick’s office on Tuesday, May 9, police received a report of a retail theft that occurred at the Goodwill on North Main Street in DuBois, Clearfield County, around 3:46 p.m. on Thursday, May 3.

Officers responded to the store and met with the on duty manager, who explained a male walked into their store, gathered several items while pushing a cart, walked to the rear of the store, and began filling bags, the complaint states.

The male walked to the front of the store and was confronted past the last point of sale. The male ignored the manager’s requests to pay for the items he concealed, exited the store, and walked away, the complaint indicates.

Video footage of the incident was recorded. Officers watched the store video and immediately recognized the male from other similar incidents. He was identified as Mark Kearse, according to the complaint.

Kearse entered the store at 2:43 p.m. and began pushing a cart throughout the store. He had a drawstring bag and an umbrella. He picked up a pair of pants and placed them in his cart. He then pushed the cart to the rear of the store beneath the store surveillance camera and removed a black backpack from the wall. Kearse then began loading the backpack with two pairs of tan-colored pants and a red shirt, the complaint notes.

Kearse walked to the front of the store while pushing the cart and past the last point of sale. The manager approached him at the front doors of the store and Kearse turned and quickly walked away, the complaint states.

The stolen items totaled $27.96, the complaint indicates.

A criminal history showed that Kearse has more than eight prior convictions of retail theft, the complaint notes.
