State Police Calls: Brookville Man Accused of Fleeing Traffic Stop, Abandoning Truck

JEFFERSON/INDIANA CO., Pa. (EYT) — Punxsutawney-based State Police responded to the following incidents:

Brookville Man Accused of Fleeing Traffic Stop, Abandoning Truck

PSP Punxsutawney attempted to stop a silver Ford F-150 near State Route 36 and Laurel Ridge Road, in Oliver Township, Jefferson County, for a summary traffic violation around 8:16 p.m. on April Tuesday, April 23.

Police say the operator of the truck—later identified as 53-year-old David Scott Barnett, of Brookville–failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit was discontinued for safety reasons, police say.

On April 24, the silver F150 pickup was located abandoned on a railroad grade along Five Mile Run Road.

Barnett was found at his residence and subsequently taken into custody.

According to court documents, Barnett was arraigned at 1:00 p.m. on April 24 on the following charges in front of District Judge Jacqueline Mizerock:

– Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer, Felony 3
– Driving W/o a License, Summary
– Drg Lic Sus/rev Purs to Sec 3802/1547 B1-2 Nd Violation, Summary
– Careless Driving, Summary
– Reckless Driving, Summary
– Operat Veh W/o Valid Inspect, Summary
– Duties at Stop Sign, Summary

He is currently free after posting $500.00 cash bail on April 25.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 1 at 9:00 a.m. with Judge Mizerock presiding.

Sexual Assault Investigation

According to a release issued by PSP Punxsutawney on April 25, 2024, an incident of sexual assault in Glen Campbell Borough, Indiana County, was reported.

Police say the assault occurred between 5:30 p.m. on November 8, 2023, and 12:00 a.m. on December 25, 2023.

The victim is a 13-year-old female from Glen Campbell.

This investigation is ongoing.
