Woman Accused of Driving Under Influence with Juvenile Passenger, Crashing SUV into Tree in Bell Township

BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a 47-year-old woman was reportedly under the influence of alcohol/and or controlled substances when she crashed her vehicle with a juvenile passenger in Bell Township.

According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 47-year-old Allison Marion Nunes, of Springfield, Virginia, in District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on April 16.

According to a recently released criminal complaint, PSP Punxsutawney was dispatched to a one-vehicle crash into a tree on Cloe Lake Road, in Bell Township, Jefferson County, around 12:46 a.m. on March 9.

Troopers arrived on the scene and found a white Chevrolet Equinox with disabling damage to the front bumper, the hood, the front passenger side quarter panel, and the front passenger door. The windshield was shattered and airbags were deployed in the vehicle, the complaint states.

Police also noted tire tracks in the mud, bark removed from the tree the vehicle hit, and a branch sticking out of the front grill of the vehicle. There was also debris from the vehicle, the complaint indicates.

Troopers made contact with the operator, identified as Allison Nunes, who was standing near a juvenile passenger who was being examined by EMS. Nunes stated she had crashed the vehicle due to weather conditions and the road being slippery while she was negotiating a left turn. During this interaction, troopers observed Nunes to have watery, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath and person, according to the complaint.

Nunes admitted to consuming a “mimosa” at 8:30 a.m. before her commute from Virginia to Pennsylvania, the complaint notes.

Nunes was requested to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which led to her subsequently being placed into custody for DUI, according to the complaint.

Her blood was taken for chemical testing.

In an interview with police, Nunes related she had gone out the previous night and had been drinking IPA craft beer. She said she had not eaten anything since 4:00 p.m. on March 8 and got home from drinking around 11:00 p.m. She again admitted to consuming a mimosa around 8:30 a.m. before her commute, the complaint states.

On March 23, a toxicology report showed a blood alcohol content of 0.210 g/100mL, as well as positive findings for multiple forms of THC, the complaint indicates.

Nunes was charged with the following offenses:

– DUI/BAC .16% and Greater, Misdemeanor
– DUI/unsafe Driving, Misdemeanor
– Driving Under Influence of Alcohol/controlled Sub, Misdemeanor (three counts)
– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/guardian/other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
– Disregard Traffic Lane (single), Summary
– Driving at Safe Speed, Summary
– Careless Driving, Summary
– Reckless Driving, Summary

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 16, at 10:45 a.m., with Judge Mizerock presiding.
